At 7pm today, Hoboken’s City Council will decide whether to permit medical marijuana dispensaries. The City Council will review two cannabis ordinances including one to allow medical cannabis dispensaries, and another that prohibits cannabis businesses. The city has been forced to make this policy decision due to numerous inquiries by organizations that want to open medical marijuana dispensaries. The city held a community meeting on November 19, 2018 to obtain public comment. During the December 5, 2018 city council meeting, supporters of medical cannabis shared personal stories with the City Council on the benefits that it can provide to the city’s citizens.. Drafters of the ordinance to prohibit cannabis businesses note that the city should delay this policy determinations until New Jersey State determines whether it will legalize recreational cannabis.
